ST MIKAEL (aka Mikael SUNDTSRÖM) was born in Södertälje, Sweden on March 27th, 1963. Much influenced by the 60s rock innovation and supernatural arts, he picked up his mother's old guitar and started making bedroom recordings at age 15. In his early twenties Mikael stood up for playing in his own rock outfit and simultaneously searching for psychedelic experiences with LSD. But he gave up his rock and roll band dream and went back to primitive home recordings at the time he realized he could not complete his psychedelic works in any bands he had belonged to.

In 1989 his Real Psychedelia had got started - inspired by Stefen Kéry, a psychedelic connoisseur, Mikael released and distributed the debut cassette album 'Visions Of A Trespasser' in 1990 and the second 'The Unknown' in the following year (these two albums, described as 'a collection of never-meant-to-be-heard-by-others recordings', were compiled later as 'Visions Of The Unknown'). Via Xotic Mind Production label, formed by Stefen, Mikael released 'Claustromania' (1991), 'Psychocosmic Songs' (1994), and 'Soul Flower' (1996) as a psychedelic multi-instrumentalist and a sleeve designer. He also wrote a book with novellas in the horror fantasy tradition or acted in his own films during his 'golden' years.

Although ST MIKAEL seemed to be under musical hibernation after that, he actually continued homemade sound production. Since the turn of the century, he has fallen in love with Cheska, an American lady, and formed an improvising three-piece outfit together with her, named JUST BEYOND. In the midst of this project he spent almost all of his musical life in early 2000s.

And in 2006 his Real Psychedelia rushed into a new stage - with Dungen's Reine FISKE (bass) and Fredrik BJÖRLING (drums, percussion), ST MIKAEL has got more prolific again and produced two soundstories - 'Mind Of Fire' (2007) as the introduction, and 'In Harmony' (2008) as the conclusion - released by Subliminal Sounds label.

Väljasõit rohelisse is an amateur adventure: a quintet with a smoke machine as sixth member; one chord psychedelia with swamp blues, surf and Krautrock tinges and Estonian echoes. In the beginning of May the 10” EP “Külastus” was released under Onesense Music.  A good choice to bring along to a picnic, with wine, poppy buns and a portable turntable. Theirs is an echo-chamber sound with washed-out tablecloths, cheap crystal carafes, inverted glances and monotone atmosphere. With oscillating tremolo and motorific boom, the one-chord ceremony is about to begin.

Väljasõit rohelisse is the Estonian title for a short novel called “Пикник на обочине”/”Roadside picnic” by Soviet sci-fi writers the Strugatsky brothers. It is read to you by Lauri (tremolos, echos, amateur surf sounds), Martin (cathedral electronics, space shots and prairie licks), Eiko (motoric boom), Kersten (sound magician) and Marit (heartbeats, glittering tambourines and killer claps).

Last year saw The Walking Who leap into the foresight of the general public and music industry tastemakers alike. The release of their debut EP Mansions in September has led to many accolades, including snagging the spot as FBi Band of the Month, and support slots with The Growlers, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Delta Riggs, The Drones, Dappled Cities, Palms and Sticky Fingers.

With the imminent release of their next EP, the Sydney-based outfit are keeping the momentum going with live shows on the horizon alongside Dune Rats, Shining Bird and Wolf & Cub. The recording of the next EP was not without trials though, with the guys getting moved on from multiple, makeshift, backyard studios, due to the repetition of loud and obscure noises echoing through residential settlements (including the last incident with a brick through a host's glass window). After tracking they recruited their good pal Rudy from The Delta Riggs to mix the first single, “With Roses”.

The majority of the writing process took place in the idyllic setting of Byron Bay, which the band admit unexpectedly influenced their sound. Remnants of folk and country can be heard, mixed with equal parts positivity and darkness.

“As you can imagine, the EP took a different turn thematically to a darker place (after the brick situation) and the first taste of this is ‘With Roses’ - although this song seemed to cling to those initial feelings of optimism,” says The Walking Who.
