Absolutely Free
http://www.stereogum.com/1710097/stream-absolutely-free-absolutely-free-stereogum-premiere/mp3s/album-stream/ wrote:Toronto trio Absolutely Free conjure a soaring, otherworldly sort of psychedelia on their debut full-length. The album’s airy fantasies reach back to the sounds of the Elephant 6 collective, Broadcast’s retro-futuristic lounge music, and Caribou’s deepest dalliances with psychedelic pop — and really much farther back than that to ’70s krautrock and ’60s psych (hello, Zappa) — but mostly it reaches outward toward the open sky. Fucked Up’s Mike Haliechuk produced Absolutely Free., and the album’s scope is as ambitious as that of any Fucked Up record, just more floaty and dreamlike. Titles like “Burred Lens” and “Striped Light” hint at Absolutely Free’s headspace, and even the band name itself is indicative of the wide-open sounds they’ve created together. You’ve heard “Beneath The Air” and “Vision’s,” now stream the whole album below.

Architectural Metaphor
http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1612 wrote:ARCHITECTURAL METAPHOR (ArcMet to friends) have been spacing out professionally since the early 90s. The original core of Bill Buitenhuys, Paul Eggleston, Bob Foley, Dave Gorrill, Barry Corbett and Chris Mogan made cassette only releases in the late 80's. Members came and went HAWKWIND style until the early 90's, when the lineup solidified as Paul Eggleston (synths), Greg Kozlowski (guitar) and Deb Young (vocals, drums). They were a staple of the Strange Daze Festival from '97-00. Deb was replaced by Pat Murphy of Dinosaur Jr fame in late 2000. Amy Risley was vocalist from 2000-2002, but no recordings of that era have surfaced yet. In 2005, they added the jazz award winning vocalist Andrea Aguayo to fill out the trio.
Their debut CD "Odysseum Galacti" is very trippy and features the original lineup for most of the album, and two songs from the trio of Paul/Greg/Deb. The followup "Creature of the Velvet Void" shows advancement from pure space freakout to more song orientation. "Viva", a live album from 2000 shows the instrumental power the band can bring as a trio. "Other Music" showcases the new trio with Murph on drums, a significant improvement in instrumental power. The next release, "Everything You Know is Wrong" is the most complete fusion of their talents, NEU meets AMON DUUL 2, with a healthy dollop of HAWKWIND, ASH RA and OZRIC TENTACLES thrown in.
Highly recommended for any krautrock or space rock fans, and one of the cream of the new wave of US space rock of the late 90's. Look for them also on KING CRIMSON, GENESIS tribs and the Space Box compilation, all on Cleopatra.

Black Hearted Brother
http://www.last.fm/music/Black+Hearted+Brother wrote:Black Hearted Brother is an English band, the work of Neil Halstead (of Mojave 3) and long time collaborators and friends, Mark Van Hoen (Seefeel, Locust) and Nick Holton (Holton’s Opulent Oog, Coley Park). Their debut album, “Stars Are Our Home” was released on October 22, 2013, on Slumberland Records.
It was Alfred Bester, if I recall correctly, who called ‘the stars my destination’, in his brilliant novel of the same name from 1956. Long considered a libertarian science fiction classic, it’s also notable for featuring one of the very first accounts of synaesthesia in English-language fiction.

Alpha Stone
http://www.allmusic.com/artist/alpha-stone-mn0000130107/biography wrote:Pete Bain was an original member of Spacemen 3 (although hardly the best known). As Pete Bassman, he's the key figure in Alpha Stone, which in his words (according to a label press release) is "like a less sublime, more groovy, danceable Spiritualized; the band merges spacy riffs with urban samples and mechanical drumbeats." Fair enough; certainly the music has strong connections to the vibe of Spacemen 3 and that group's various spinoffs, melding repetitive riffs both to snaky, early Pink Floydish psychedelic guitar riffs and electronic washes/rhythms

They are influenced by The Dandy Warhols, The Dead Weather, The Velvet Underground, Jefferson Airplane.

Karmakanix
http://www.planetgong.co.uk/bazaar/cd/karmakanix_krypton.shtml wrote:Famous for their all night psychedelic concerts around England during the early eighties, Karmakanix was a conglomeration of musicians from the free festival bands of the late 70's: Steve, Rob and Subs from Thandoy; Twink from Here & Now; Maz from Zorch. Formed during the summer of 81 playing in the Tibetan Ukrainian Mountain Troupe's blue and white marquee at Stonehenge, and at the numerous festivals across the country.
After the Rougham Tree Fair in 1984 the band took a much-needed break. They got back together in 1987 and continued to record and gig until 1993. The band has many live recordings of the festivals and although the tapes usually ran out just as the music was Taking Off, it was the way it was meant to be, recorded in the ether and in the memories of those who were there, yet not there...

Lunatic Soul
http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4127 wrote:The LUNATIC SOUL is a solo studio project from RIVERSIDE's bass guitarist and vocalist Mariusz DUDA featuring RIVERSIDE's keyboard player Micha³ £APAJ on the Hammond organ with Maciej SZELENBAUM playing keyboards, piano, flutes, harmonica and qujang, Wawrzyniec DRAMOWICZ from INDUKTI on drums and QUIDAM's Maciej MELLER utilising the e-bow on an unspecified stringed instrument.
While far removed from RIVERSIDE's Progressive Metal it is not difficult to see comparisons and similarities to the parent band in the music contained on the eponymous debut album - not least of all because of DUDA's distinctive clean vocals, the occasional guttural growl and, despite the lack of electric guitars, the pounding acoustic guitar riffs that appear on some of the tracks. However, this is not the lighter, unplugged side of DUDA, it is a dark brooding mix of eclectic sounds with ethnic instruments and influences evoking eastern/oriental themes, psychedlic-era PINK FLOYD-like rhythms, swirling and ethereal keyboards reminiscent of early PORCUPINE TREE tied together by songs that are surprisingly accessible and melodic.

Permanent Clear Light
Permanent Clear Light (PCL) is a fairly new psychedelic and prog rock band from Finlandia, home of Santa Claus. The band was formed in 2009 but its members have long backgrounds in the Finnish rock, pop, folk-rock, jazz, experimental, avant-garde and psychedelic scenes. Permanent Clear Light’s recording debut was in 2010 on the British Fruits de Mer Records and the band have since received very favourable reviews in the (mainly) British music press as well as a lot of airplay around the world. The band members are:
Markku Helin: guitars E-Bow+, Theremin, oscillators, bass, effects, legal advice
Arto Kakko: percussion, vocals, electric violin, bass, Mellotron, keys, slide guitar, cornet, banjo, sundry implements
Matti Laitinen: lead vocals, guitar, synths, physical training
So far, Permanent Clear Light has released seven tracks on various Fruits de Mer compilation albums and EPs. Also, the Greek psychedelic magazine, TimeMazine, released a Permanent Clear Light track, And the Skies Will Fall, during autumn 2012. The band’s debut single, Higher Than the Sun, was released on Fruits de Mer in December 2012. Record Collector magazine (UK) reviewed the single in its November 2012 issue and commented: “Two coloured vinyls, 3D cover and glasses….Ain’t the music trippy enough?” Classic Rock magazine (December 2012, UK) named Permanent Clear Light “Finland’s top psychedelic band” and predicted that the single, Higher Than the Sun, “is destined to become a collectors’ classic”. Steve Kilbey, leader of the legendary Australian psychedelic band, The Church, commented: “I love Permanent Clear Light. Finnish psychedelia is King!” on PCL’s Facebook page in February 2013. PCL also had a full page feature in the March 2013 issue of Guitar Player magazine (USA).
Permanent Clear Light’s debut album, Beyond These Things (HVSP0001), was released in May 2013 in both CD and digital download formats on the band’s own Havasupai Records. The album tracks vary from gently shimmering and melodic psychedelic pop to powerful and aggressive prog rock. At times, the music is wildly euphoric and skyrockets its way into celestial, psychedelic spheres never visited before. The gentler ballads on the album celebrate the overwhelming joy of the wonders of human life. The darker side of the album represents the ultimate sense of disappointment with what the modern way of life has to offer.

thelightshines
http://www.thelightshinesband.com/about/ wrote:thelightshines are ten hands bringing you shimmering jangles, sunshine harmonies, guitars, sitars and half-remembered memories.
Formed from a solo project of the same name, thelightshines released their first single in November 2012 on the legendary Great Pop Supplement label. Released to critical acclaim, and quickly selling out, the Soul to Skin / Love, The Amnesiac single offered a glimpse into the band's lush melodic orientation.
The band spent the following year in the studio, recording their debut album Now The Sandman Sings. A celebratory record, Now The Sandman Sings weaves a symphonic tapestry with influences taken from west coast pop, the paisley underground scene, melancholia, psychedelia, the blues, Indian classical music and folk.
