Guitarist Paul Spooner passed away and it took 8 months to find new guitarist Jonothan Purcell, which gave the band a new sound! in 1984 a demo was recorded but never released! in 1985 "Call my name" was released but failed to make any impact, even though it was far superior to anything the band had done before, in 1986 "Pull it all down" was recorded but never released! the band split and Mark went on to form the Candy Harlots! all unreleased demos, singles and the complete live at the wireless sessions are to be released on a new cd called "BROKEN ROMANCE" on Plastic Donut records in Dec 2006

Thirsty for your smile, I watch you for a while
You are a vapour trail in a deep blue sky

Tremble with a sigh, glitter in your eye
You seem to come and go, I never seem to know
And all my time is yours as much as mine
We never have enough time to show our love

Post-Punk / New Wave - Page 7 Empty The Chameleons

Post  Spellbound Sun 19 Oct - 17:54

http://www.last.fm/music/The+Chameleons wrote:(1981 – 1987, 2001 – 2003)
The Chameleons (called The Chameleons UK on some American releases) were a post-punk band that formed in Middleton, Greater Manchester, England in 1981. They consisted of singer and bassist Mark Burgess, guitarist Reg Smithies, guitarist Dave Fielding, and drummer John Lever.

The band initially released three studio albums in the 1980s, to solid critical acclaim. After their third release, Strange Times, in 1987 they abruptly disbanded following the sudden death of band manager Tony Fletcher. The Chameleons were, for all practical purposes, extinct for well over a decade before releasing - to the delight and even disbelief of its ardently loyal fan base - a final studio album in 2001, entitled Why Call It Anything. The band quickly dissolved once again in 2003 due to personal differences, after a successful reunion tour which took them across Europe and the United States. Though having never attained the level of commercial success or fame enjoyed by their contemporaries (e.g. U2, Echo And The Bunnymen, Joy Division), The Chameleons’ early impact can still be felt throughout much of popular music today.

Dave Fielding went on to form The Reegs who released a couple of ep’s . Then in 2003 formed Coconut Dogfuck a trance techno dance act with Ralph on percussion, Paul Didge on didge and Dave playing guitar and dulcimer . They released an ep and played festivals and gigs around the uk .

Post-Punk / New Wave - Page 7 Empty Sign Language

Post  Spellbound Tue 21 Oct - 0:24

http://www.last.fm/music/Sign+Language wrote:Sign Language formed in 1981 in Blackpool, Lancashire, UK. Initially influenced by the spirit of the first wave of British Punk Bands, Sign Language developed a more new wave/post punk sound akin to their peers at the time, Joy Division,Killing Joke and early U2(Boy LP).

After honing down their set of songs, Sign Language gained a strong reputation as an energetic live act, which lead to a gig review and interview in “Punk Lives” Magazine, as well as numerous fanzines.

Sign Language also produced the “Inside Sign” Fanzine which ran for 6 editions. In 1983 Sign Language contributed a track, “The Killing” to the Blackpool Rox e.p. no 2, which was released on The Membranes Vinyl Drip record Label. In 1984, Sign Language signed to Fire Records in London, home to bands such as Pulp, Spacemen 3, Blyue Aeroplanes, Close Lobsters and TV Personalities. Their debut 12 Single “Belief and other propaganda”, was released in 1986, gaining national airplay and glowing reviews from Sounds and NME Music papers.

The band split up in 1987. In 2005, the original members of the band reformed, their unreleased track, ‘’Love and Glory’’ was included in The Ugly Truth About Blackpool Vol.1 CD (JSNTGM Records) and they have played a number of low key gigs around the Fylde coast.

Post-Punk / New Wave - Page 7 Empty Norma Loy

Post  Spellbound Tue 21 Oct - 23:17

http://www.last.fm/music/NORMA+LOY wrote:
Norma Loy is a coldwave band formed in 1981 in Dijon, France. Norma Loy is an anagram of “Nom Royal” (Royal Name).

Usher and Chelsea met in 1977. This marked the beginning of a close collaboration, influenced by the punk movement which lead them to produce several works. They published 3 books, organized exhibitions and performances and started up music with the band Metal Radiant (noise punk and Stooges’ spirit), then with Coit Bergman (more electronic and influenced by Suicide).

In 1981 they formed Norma Loy (Alan Vega himself gave them the name), around which evolved different musicians. The band was connected to the fanzine New Wave which set up a label, and launched its first EP titled “Norma Loy”, a 4-track record, very cold wave, the first one of its kind in France.

Norma Loy searched for their identity and multiplied there experiences on the side, leading to the creation in 1984 of their own label, CPM, which produced a second EP distributed by New Rose: “PSYCHIC ALTERCATION” whose “pscychoanalytic rock” gave the setting for later productions. CPM developed its own philosophy and centralised the different activities of the group (musical and non musical ones: (photo)graphic ones, literature, video making, dance etc… and controls the entire artistic production (recordings, LP covers, song books…). A particular emphasis was drawn on the concerts mixing music and slide projections.

http://bluetvset.blogspot.gr/2009/04/pale-blue-agents-lp-1982.html wrote:To know the origins we have to come back at the end of 70's, to a punk rock band called Electric Nerves. Then the band lose the guitar player and changes the name in Pale T.V., with an atypical formation of 3 girls and 1 man: Francesca "Blue Niagara" (keys), Valeria "Whip" (bass), Alessandra "Lady Adrenalina" (drums), Alex (voice and sax). Their first 7'', 'Night Toys' got a tipical new wave inspiration. The name changes shortly in Pale and in 1982 Blue agents Lp is out. In this period they receive a lot of proposals, including invitations from Caterina Casella, Milva or a possible participation to the Festival of Sanremo.
The Pale reject these offers, considering them as a compromise : after this waste, the label Italian Records decide to split with them. In 1983 they open the four italian concerts of Simple Minds and after few months, unable to get labels interested, they stop their career in music production.

Marcie's Still Waiting was a quite obscure German new wave act. Seems like they released only two EPs, "A Mysterious Song" (1985) and "Mirrors & Daydream" (1986), which consisted of 4 songs each, nonetheless very powerful ones. Vocals & music were strongly influenced by The Cure. Their music is a good example of 80's new wave in dark colours.

Post-Punk / New Wave - Page 7 Empty The Pop Group

Post  Spellbound Sat 25 Oct - 11:58

http://www.last.fm/music/The+Pop+Group wrote:The Pop Group were a post-punk band which formed in 1978 in Bristol, England. They consisted of Mark Stewart (vocals), John Waddington (guitar), Gareth Sager (guitar), Simon Underwood (bass) and Bruce Smith (drums).

Their uncompromising, dissonant sound spanned punk, free jazz, funk and dub music. Their lyrics were, more often than not, politically charged. In ‘79 they issued their debut single, “She Is Beyond Good and Evil” on the Radar label.

Their debut album Y, was produced by reggae veteran Dennis Bovell to critical acclaim but low sales figures. Although it did not chart, the album’s success was sufficient to convince Rough Trade to sign the band, but not before more line-up changes, with Dan Katsis, formerly a guitarist in the Glaxo Babies, replacing Underwood on bass.

The band’s career with Rough Trade commenced with what is possibly their best-known single “We Are All Prostitutes”, which featuring a guest appearance by free improviser Tristan Honsinger on cello. This was followed the release of their second album, For How Much Longer Do We Tolerate Mass Murder? in 1980, which included a contribution from US proto-rappers The Last Poets.

Shortly afterwards The Pop Group released a split single, “Where There’s A Will…”, with The Slits, a band with whom they now shared a drummer and managers (Christine Robertson and Dick O’Dell), as well as a growing interest in exploring musical genres such as dub and funk rhythms.

Malka Spigel (bass, vocals), Samy Birnbach (vocals, texts) and Berry Sakharof (guitars, keyboards, vocals) left their native Tel-Aviv in 1981 for Amsterdam in search of an escape from the provincial attitudes of their own city. They went through two other vocalists recording with American Music Club’s Mark Eitzel from 1990-1991 and using touring vocalist David Ripley). After an ill fated attempt to reunite with 1st vocalist Ricky Williams, quashed by his post concert death from a heroin overdose in 1992, they resumed as a strictly instrumental act in the mid 1990’s with longtime producer Tom Mallon on drums. They went on hiatus circa 1997, but after the turn of millennium, the group resumed gigging around San Francisco with a show at The Fillmore commemorating the life of the late punk club promoter Dirk Dirksen in 2007.

Rick Trust lays the quick beats whilst Alan Pilkington produces heavy basslines. With no fear of sharp objects, Hugo Hamper-Potts cuts into the songs with discorded riffs and vocal one-liners, which will make it difficult to refrain from addiction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_in_Heaven wrote:Blue in Heaven was an Irish rock quartet from Churchtown, Dublin, Ireland, active 1982–1989 and led by singer Shane O'Neill. They reformed in 1990 as The Blue Angels. O'Neill later went on to form Supernaut with Dave Long from Into Paradise.

Blue in Heaven released a few singles on U2's Mother Records before being signed to Island Records in 1985, when they released their first album, All The Gods Men, which was produced by Martin Hannett.

Their follow-up, Explicit Material (1986), saw them team up with Island Records chief Chris Blackwell and Eric Thorngren. Their popularity grew thanks to touring with The Chameleons, Echo & the Bunnymen, and The Damned, alongside achieving a minor hit with "I Just Wanna".

Kieran Kennedy joined and they played concerts for two years. They released an EP on the Solid label, Rock 'n' Roll R.I.P., which was a chronological compilation of their work: a 1983 track ("On and On") produced by The Edge, four from 1987 and a live cover of The Stooges's song "Loose." Kennedy left to start the Black Velvet Band.
