Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty The Tea Party

Post  innocent76 Sat 6 Sep - 23:09

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tea_Party wrote:The Tea Party is a Canadian rock band with blues, progressive rock, Indian and Middle Eastern influences, dubbed "Moroccan roll" by the media. Active throughout the 1990s and up until 2005, the band re-formed in 2011. The Tea Party released eight albums on EMI Music Canada, selling 1.6 million records worldwide, and achieving a No. 1 Canadian single "Heaven Coming Down" in 1999.

The Tea Party toured Canada on twenty-one occasions and Australia on twelve. In November 2002, the band toured Canada with symphony orchestras reinterpreting a decade's worth of shared songwriting. Breaking up in 2005 due to creative differences, band members nevertheless re-united in 2011 to play several Canadian tour dates during the summer. The band decided to continue after the tour and has now re-formed. The band has since released a double live album, recorded on their 2012 tour of Australia. Video shot during this tour was released as a Live DVD/Blu-ray, "The Tea Party: Live From Australia" in 2013. The Tea Party has also been writing and recording new original material since Fall 2012, and their new album, The Ocean at the End, will be released in September 2014.

Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty I am Kloot - To You (1999)

Post  Psychspaniolos Fri 17 Oct - 1:04

I Am Kloot are an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1999. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist John Bramwell, bassist Peter Jobson and drummer Andy Hargreaves.

The gods and the saints preserve you,
'cause nobody here deserves you.
I'm living my life in flashback,
Since I lost my card for cashback.
and I've gone to rack and ruin,
Since I don't know what you're doing.
There's no clear or present danger,
That I see in any stranger.

Someone, somewhere, said to me.
Will someone, somewhere, set me free.
Well hurry up or, harry me.
Will someone, somewhere, marry me.
To you, To you, To you, To you.

The line on the screen has broken,
What once was asleep has woken.
I cover your face in make up,
Praying you'll one day wake up.
I've littered at life with magic,
Yet I'm neither dead 'nor tragic.
The gods and the saints preserve you,
'cause nobody here deserves you.

Someone, somewhere, said to me.
Will someone, somewhere, set me free.
From all that I'm supposed to be,
Will someone, somewhere, marry me.

Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty Snapper

Post  Spellbound Sat 18 Oct - 0:11

http://www.last.fm/music/Snapper wrote: Snapper is a New Zealand indie/alternative band formed by Peter Gutteridge (previously in The Clean, The Chills and The Great Unwashed). Snapper’s activity since the late 1990s has been sporadic at best. The Gutteridge-penned song “Gentle Hour” was covered by Yo La Tengo in 2009.
The band evolved from the line-up of another Gutteridge-led band, the Dunedin-based Phromes. A show supporting the Delawares featuring Christine Voice drew her melodic organ and haunting vocals to the fold and with input from Alan Haig on drums and Dominic Stones (who went on to the 3Ds) on guitar, the line-up was complete.

Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty Len Bright Combo

Post  Spellbound Sun 19 Oct - 13:15

http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-len-bright-combo-present-the-len-bright-combo-by-the-len-bright-combo-mw0000945855 wrote:

Released at a time when "low-fi" still meant the Mary Chain, and garage rock was largely ill-defined Cramps copyists, the Artist Formerly Known As Wreckless Eric bounced back from five years of more-or-less obscurity with an album that still defies easy categorization. No matter that most of the lessons taught by the Len Bright Combo have long since been absorbed into the mainstream, nor that everyone from Mudhoney and Sonic Youth to whichever unrepentant noisemakers are most hip this week, owes the Combo a massive stylistic debt. Still, The Len Bright Combo Present the Len Bright Combo by the Len Bright Combo represents the peerless merging of pristine pop songwriting and deathless aural terrorism, the most impressive album of that ilk since the Velvet Underground first sent the recording level unstoppably into the red -- and the last to do it so gracefully. There is nothing contrived or awkward about this album. Its sonic credentials may be primitive mono, but that's because the songs, not the style, demanded it. From the maniacal Euro-bop of "Someone Must Have Nailed Us Together," a song so singalong that even confirmed hermits love it, to the shattered punk of "The Golden Hour of Harry Secombe," the album has that timeless aura that could have been composed and cut any time in the past 50 years -- yes, the entire history of rock & roll is here and, if the bellicose savagery of "Young, Upwardly Mobile...and Stupid" is dated by the then-(mid-'80s) faddishness of its title, then the deceptively acoustic "Lureland" catapults the listener back to 1950s England, where family vacations to the seaside were transformed in the child's imagination to assault courses of sand castles, rock pools, and demented old men cracking skulls with their walking sticks. Seek out The Len Bright Combo Present the Len Bright Combo by the Len Bright Combo in Wreckless Eric's discography, and it's just one album among many, and there's not a hit single in sight. Experience it in person, however, cranked up loud with your mind's eye wide open, and it's records like this that make music worth hearing. And nothing else will sound so great for days.

Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty TV Ghost

Post  Spellbound Sun 30 Nov - 11:29

http://www.allmusic.com/artist/tv-ghost-mn0002143972/biography wrote:Taking their name from the phenomenon of analog television frequency disturbances, Lafayette, Indiana's TV Ghost began as purveyors of an especially sludgy and punishing brand of art-punk. The band formed in 2006, with vocalists/guitarists Tim Gick and Jimmy Frezza recruiting keyboardist Brahne Hoeft and drummer Jackson VanHorn. Their first 7", "Atomic Rain," was released by Die Stasi Records, also home at the time to the noisy likes of Pink Reason and Zola Jesus. The band's sinister sound -- which echoed the Scientists and the Cramps' mid-'70s output -- and frantic live shows won them an underground following. Late in 2007, Frezza left the band to go to art school, and bassist Shawn Beckering joined the fold in time to record a nine-song EP that arrived in early 2008. That year, TV Ghost signed to In the Red to release a full-length album and appeared at the label's South by Southwest showcase. The band also released The Fiend/Prodome as a part of Columbus Discount's Single of the Month Club in May 2009, a few months before their debut full-length Cold Fish surfaced. In 2010, VanHorn departed; Hoeft took over drumming duties and Frezza returned as keyboardist. Gick, Hoeft, and Frezza recorded the band's second album, Mass Dream, and TV Ghost then embarked on a lengthy tour of the U.S. and Europe. Once the tour was finished, Beckering left and TV Ghost recruited bassist Tristan Ivas. In the Red released Mass Dream in April 2011, and the following year the Phantasm/Panic Area single arrived on Sweet Rot Records. Later in 2012, VanHorn rejoined TV Ghost as a guitarist, and this lineup of the band opted for a slower, more expansive sound influenced by Echo and the Bunnymen and the Cure. The hypnotic Disconnect, which featured production work by Chris Woodhouse, arrived in September 2013.

Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty The Austerity Program

Post  innocent76 Tue 6 Jan - 0:04

http://www.austerityprogram.com/biography/index.htm wrote:The Austerity Program is two people from New York City and their drum machine. Thad Calabrese plays bass and Justin Foley sings and plays guitar.

Thad and Justin began playing music together while attending college in New York City. We were not, at that point, the Austerity Program. Instead, we were called Polonium after what we thought was the heaviest metal on the periodic table. We're rerelease some of that stuff soon. Here's a sneak preview: we listened to a lot of Bolt Thrower.

After school Justin moved up to Hartford, CT while Thad stayed in NYC. This made practicing infrequent and difficult. In 1997, Justin moved back to New York and we began working on new material in earnest. We played our first show in 1998 at Coney Island High. Do not ever try to lie and tell us that you were there, because we personally knew each of the 11 people in the audience. At that point we kept all of our stuff in a big loft in the Bronx. Practices were either freezing cold or swelteringly hot depending upon the time of the year.

After a few years Justin got a house and we relocated to Queens. We practiced in his cramped basement and spent most of our band's golden years building a recording/rehearsal room in his backyard. Details abound on this project up in the "Studio" section above. Abound.

These days, Thad lives in Brooklyn and Justin still lives in Queens. We get together about twice a month to practice. = During the day Thad teaches college. Justin works for a labor union. We are both married to two wonderful women. That's "both", not "each". We've got five wonderful kids between us. You may think that slows us down for being a band, but you'd be wrong. Our pace may be slow but we have no plans to stop, ever.

We used to be on Hydra Head records but then they pretty much stopped releasing anything so we started our own record label with our friends in Nonagon; it's called [ Controlled Burn Records ]. We do not endorse any particular products, but if the people at G. Heileman start making Powermaster again, we can be contacted through e-mail. You can come up to us an yell "Valnott" at a show and we'll smile, but you won't be the first.

Alternative Rock - Page 6 Empty The Mistaken

Post  innocent76 Wed 21 Jan - 22:14

http://www.allmusic.com/album/santa-fe-mw0000884287 wrote:If all you know about this record is that leader Gregg Turner was in the Angry Samoans, you are probably going to be shocked when you hear it. Turner and the band created a marvelous meld of retro garage-psych and art pop, with oddly naïve lyrics set to occasionally sloppy but often endearing music. Songs like "Medication" and "Kingdom of My Mind" have an enjoyable '60s vibe and boast some pretty tight guitar work, while the title cut shows that Turner can craft a fine piece of melancholy pop. The relaxed atmosphere is all the stranger for the company Turner was keeping -- Polly Klemmer of Pompeii 99 and the original Christian Death plays keyboards and sings an ethereal lead vocal on "Lost." There are some interesting cameo experiences, such as a vocal intro from rock critic Natalie Nichols on the intro to the cover of the Velvet Underground's "Venus in Furs." It's a good rendition, lower-key than the original but still intense. Not everything on Santa Fe works as well, but there are enough tracks that do to make this album worth seeking out for fans of eclectic '60s revisionism.
