http://stoned.circus.free.fr/divers/borderline%20books/80s90s/s0017.html wrote:Spiral Sky are predominantly a folk band centred around the singing and song writing of Kata Kolbert who had previously recorded as a solo artist, releasing a number of cassettes and a 12" single. The 12" single had input from Anthony Clough and Gary Ramon of Sundial. The music is exclusively acoustic folk material.

Spiral Sky :
Kata : vocals,dulcimer,keyboard
Andy Boot : guitars
Anthony Clough : bass guitar,percussion,flutes
Mike Webb : drums,tablas,percussion
Tryphena Cohen : keyboards

>Guest musicians :
Joe Townsend : violin
Steve Johnson : flute
Edward Kent : guitar,tambura,sitar

All songs composed by Kata
except Lady Of Shallot - Kata,Andy and Tennyson; Matty Grooves
and Bold William Taylor - Kata/traditional

Sundial's/Gary Ramon :
"I'd been into production and recording and sound from way back but it started off with Spiral Sky around 1992 (which Anthony was involved with also). Their album was recorded at my studios and was complete but I felt had more potential. They just allowed me to remix it and add or detract stuff, which I did. I figured as a whole LP I thought it made sense and that was the first non Sun Dial Acme album release - and it got some good reviews. I think I played guitar on one or two tracks."

Neo-Psychedelia / Psychedelic Rock / Prog (80s-today) - Page 9 Empty Krel

Post  innocent76 Sun 6 Jul - 23:03

http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=4725 wrote:Krel biography
Back in 1988, Martin M. (guitars, keyboards, synthesizers, voices) and Radar Dave (guitars, voices) - who had formed a band called Moonstone, playing Hawkwind covers and original material - were inspired by Nik Turner's 'Watching The Grass Grow' to be more immersed in space rock scene. They recruited Mr. Dibs (bass) and Floyd (keyboards, synths) for the organization of a new space rock band Purple Otter Trotters, playing a gig for the Traveller's Aid Trust in Manchester and releasing a tape titled Mike Moorcock's Underpants, a creditable collection of Hawkwind covers. In the next year the band was reborn as KREL, with the addition of a new drummer Mike Man.

KREL made a great effort into gigging around Stockport and Manchester to promote their self-produced debut cassette 'Who's Next On This', and gained fame with their live performances or as a competent supporter for the famous space rock outfits, including gigs with Ozric Tentacles in Manchester and Wolverhampton. Asked to play a couple of support slots for Hawkwind at Bradford and York as a small taster for the British spring 1992 tour, KREL continued to gig locally as well as playing at a Club Dog event in London. They spent next few months rehearsing as well as recording lots of materials for the next cassette album 'Dark Star', which was released to accompany the British tour with Hawkwind. Over 45,000 people could get enthusiastic over KREL's performances with their original audio-visual system.

In May 1993, the next cassette album 'Earth Zero' could achieve high levels of interest, particularly in Europe. Although Mike Man was replaced by Gibo as a drummer, KREL could keep active and accept the invitation to support the Enid for charity gigs of National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD). In 1995, after Mr. Dibs' leaving the band for the formation of Spacehead, KREL recorded the excellent 'About Time (to Emit)' tape, almost a solo work by Martin M. and exactly the basis of their debut CD. 'About Time (to Emit)' was reworked & polished into a complete work 'As Astra', that was approved and released in 1996 by Dead Earnest label.

Post  Spellbound Wed 16 Jul - 16:20

http://aural-innovations.com/2009/may/livingroom.htm wrote:Living Room was a German band that existed in the late 90’s and released one record called Chambers (of which 4 tracks can be heard on this CD). The other 8 tracks come from an unreleased 2nd LP. They have a lot of really cool tracks on this CD. I especially like the instrumental tracks. Not that the two female vocalist are bad or annoy me (they are both quite cool and have sing in this quite dreamy, melting sort of way). They also have sitar on a couple of track as well. Overall, if you like 60’s psychedelia with female voices and a lot of farfisa organ you must hear this CD. The digipack is really nice and psychedelic. Great release.

Neo-Psychedelia / Psychedelic Rock / Prog (80s-today) - Page 9 Empty Lunar Dunes

Post  Spellbound Thu 17 Jul - 22:55

http://www.aural-innovations.com/issues/issue38/lunardunes.htm wrote:From London, England comes the debut from Lunar Dunes, an instrumental psychedelic space rock band that really knows how to lay down a cosmic groove. At times they sound like a more acid rock version of Ozric Tentacles, and at others they reminded me of bands like Hidria Spacefolk, that are firmly in the space-psych realm, though the tight playing and solid musicianship gives the music a progressive rock edge as well. But they really excel at just laying down cool jamming melodic, meditative, mind massaging groove tunes. Most of the tracks are in the 5-10 minute range, which for Lunar Dunes seems to be the perfect timeframe to stretch out and develop their music. Kind of like Oresund Space Collective but shorter and more tightly structured tracks.

INTO COLD WATER

We „The Blue Angel Lounge“ would like to announce that today, July 5th 2014, we will cancel all upcoming shows and are not planning an further recording at this time.

For many reasons internal and external, we have come to the conclusion to go on separate ways, new projects and discover what we we’ve been missing while working ambitiously on this project for almost a decade.

The Blue Angel Lounge has always been a project above a conceptual band, rather a musical community of friends and people in our close environment that eventually led us to an almost predictable but unfortunately abrupt end.

We would like to thank all of our fans and admirers for all the incredibly great support and for all the unforgettable moments we will never forget.

Last but not least. We would like to apologize to all the people that were involved at Paris Psych Fest and all the fans who wanted to see us play. We are deeply sorry but we could not find a way to get everybody together for one last time to give it the proper ending it definitely deserved.

We hope the music we have managed to achieve will outlast our short existence.

Sincerely,

The Blue Angel Lounge

“The Foxy Riders” Russian band, based in Saint-Petersburg, the northern capital of country, was formed in 2012 with Dan Gordeev on vocals and guitar, Jeni Titov as a second guitarist and Kirill Simonov on drums. They began to create massive wall of sound, consisting of distinct, intelligible garage rock with attention to blues – details, wrapped in psychodelic soundscape.
On December of 2013 TFR released first EP, where you can also find their debut single “Ravings”- it gains an attention as an example of classical phonation, merging raw overloaded guitars, emphatic vocal and wide chunk of fuzz. Now, in 2014, after dozens of live performances, a new studio album is in the works. I met with the guitarists of “The Foxy Riders“ collective to create an interview about the life's way of musicians from the Venice of the North.

Post  Spellbound Sat 16 Aug - 22:02

http://first-avenue.com/performer/chatham-rise wrote:Chatham Rise are a psychedelic/shoegaze band from Minneapolis. Their Debut S/T LP released April 2013 has been well-received:

"Little did we know circa 1990 that shoegaze/beautiful noise would be going so strong, still, finding new strains to explore. This Minneapolis outfit solidly nest in the space rock branch of this evergreen tree; someone should bill them with Leeds’ Hookworms, as both go past Spaceman 3/Spiritualized/Spectrum and “In a Different Place” Ride buds, further past (truest antecedent) Rain Parade and 154 Wire, back to ’60s psychedelic inceptions (there’s even a saturnine sitar on 'Gone' by Jeff Levitz Ex-Brian Jonestown Massacre/Warlocks). It’s slow-tempo, tantalizing, trancey, druggy, vaporous music, treated guitars echoing like a hangover dizzy spell—well captured by their song title, 'Oncoming Daze.' Then vocals seem hummed as much as sung, melding with the darkly flickering guitars—it all feels like being stuck in a car on a rainy day with friends doing bong hits (a teenage memory). The effect? As the Undertones once sang, 'H-y-p I’m hypnotized.'" [Jack Rabid, The Big Takeover Magazine]

Chatham Rise are Tim, Collin, Sam, Ben and Brian.

Post  innocent76 Mon 18 Aug - 21:09

http://louvanarecords.com/artists/j.kriste,-master-of-disguise.html wrote:"J. Kriste, Master of Disguise is a project by the Cypriot artist Lefteris Moumtzis. May 2009 saw the release of their album 'Girls, Ghosts and Gods' (Puzzlemusik) which was released in Cyprus and then in Greece, where it was rightfully favoured as one of the best albums of the year. The songs carry a strong London 'scent', which is the place where they were written, without, however, lacking musical references of the Greek tradition. The composer flirts with acoustic psychedelic folk, 60s and 70s rock, blues and ambient music, always interpreting these classic genres with a more contemporary, progressive approach.  J.Kriste, Master of Disguise has also released the album "This Is The Alternative" with the Swiss record label Moon Records in 2005.  The new album  "The Age of Now" was released on the 21st of December 2012. Stay tuned for more news, reviews, live shows and videos."

One Hundred Percent Lunar Boy takes place on a terraformed Moon two thousand years in the future and chronicles the misadventures of sixteen-year-old Hieronymus Rexaphin, a boy who can see the fourth primary color, and the trouble he gets into after showing his unusual eyes to a teenage tourist girl from Earth. Flan is a long, fairly violent post-apocalyptic work containing some elements of surrealism

http://destijlrecs.com/phantompayndays.html wrote:While in the widely neglected 39 Clocks, he made records that never sold and played gigs that few ever saw, Juergen Gleue has arguably been the most important exponent of electrified German sound since the late 1970s. Phantom Payn Daze was made in the mid to late 90s and has never been released. It's his final LP and is overflowing with all the elements that romanticized, loner / stoner music claims, an encoded expression of highly private feelings, an ambiguous, emotional quotient, and a dark, murkily melodic vibe. It's a record that first and foremost lives and breathes with an endless stream of great songs. But perhaps it's most curious component is it's amazingly prescient sound, a precursor to so many of today's lo fi acts, all wrapped up in their San Francisco hair.

February 2008, Cosmic Trip Machine, named in tribute to 60’s and 70’s records, started by recording one album, shortly after Will Z. and Majnun first group split (with angry quarrels and strong divergence in opinion). The two friends collected materials for an opus called Lord Space Devil, a never-completed project began in December 2000 (unreleased songs, instrumentals, experimental and conceptual ideas).

LORD SPACE DEVIL TRILOGY (2008-2010)

In studio, Cosmic Trip Machine discovered musical freedom and were addicted immediately. The result was Lord Space Devil, a psychedelic concept album with songs that release themselves of any constraints and explore differing sonic boundaries (odd instruments, studio effects, imaginative rock inspired by indian music and B-movies). Few months later, Lord Space Devil was downloaded more than 5000 times from the official website, cosmictripmachine.be, by mere word of mouth and recommendations from websites and magazines. Cosmic Trip Machine worked on an electric live show melting instrumentals and new versions from Lord Space Devil songs.

Neo-Psychedelia / Psychedelic Rock / Prog (80s-today) - Page 9 Empty The Telepathic Butterflies

http://www.popmatters.com/review/telepathicbutterflies-introducing/ wrote:But it’s the music that sells the package. A post-punk explosion of the Kinks into the Pixies. The loud and raucous early days of XTC crammed into their latter-day Dukes of Stratosphear psych-out. Nevermind does Abbey Road. The comparisons have already been made by pundits, but they hold up. The Telepathic Butterflies use heavy guitar rock and swirling melodies to evoke a sense of rock’s past glories without losing touch with the present. Like their countrymen in Sloan, they don’t divide rock and pop into separate spheres, and so they avoid much of the fey beautification that often pervades the Pop Underground scene. It’s an at once familiar and yet somehow refreshing sound.
