Punk / Oi! / Hardcore... - Page 7 Empty Lard

Post  Spellbound Wed 8 Oct - 23:50

http://www.last.fm/music/Lard wrote:Lard is a hardcore punk/Industrial band founded in 1988 as a side project by Jello Biafra (vocals), Al Jourgensen (guitar), Paul Barker (bass), and Jeff Ward (drums). Biafra is perhaps best known as the former frontman of the punk rock band Dead Kennedys. Jourgensen is the founder and only continuous member of industrial metal band Ministry, of which Barker was an official member between 1988 and 2004, and Ward was also once a touring member. Over the years, several other members of Ministry played with Lard, namely Bill Rieflin, Mike Scaccia, Louis Svitek and Rey Washam.

.
Like most of Biafra’s work, Lard’s songs are angrily political (the War on Drugs is a particularly common theme) but often have a tinge of humour.

Punk / Oi! / Hardcore... - Page 7 Empty Youth Brigade

Post  Spellbound Thu 16 Oct - 0:14

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youth_Brigade_%28band%29 wrote:Youth Brigade is a punk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1980 by brothers Mark, Adam, and Shawn Stern. The band subsequently founded BYO (Better Youth Organization), which served both as their record label and as a statement of their attitude toward the young people involved in the punk subculture, which was generally sympathetic and arguably less sensationalistic than the view usually presented in the media. Many later punk bands cite Youth Brigade as an influence, including The Nation of Ulysses and The Briefs

Punk / Oi! / Hardcore... - Page 7 Empty The Ruts

Post  Spellbound Tue 30 Dec - 13:29

http://www.last.fm/music/The+Ruts wrote:The Ruts were a punk rock band from London, UK of the late 70s, early 80s. Combining straightforward beefy Punk tracks, such as Babylon Is Burning and In A Rut with dub reggae classics like Give Youth A Chance and Jah War, they were most similar to The Clash in terms of stance and influence, walking the walk and talking the talk.

After meeting at the Deeply Vale Free Festival, The Ruts were formed on 18 August ]1977, the band consisted of Malcolm Owen (vocals), Paul Fox (guitar), John “Segs” Jennings (bass) and Dave Ruffy (drums). [1] As part of the Misty in Roots People Unite collective based in Southall, west London, the band were active in anti-racist causes and played a number of benefits for Rock Against Racism.

On 11 February 1980, the band returned to a BBC studio for their third Peel session, two tracks of which - “Demolition Dancing” and “Secret Soldiers” - later appeared on Virgin’s posthumous Grin & Bear It album.

By this time singer Malcolm Owen was suffering with health problems; a combination of sore throats and a heroin addiction. A UK tour was arranged, the ‘Back to Blighty’ tour, but a number of dates had to be cancelled due to Owen’s condition. What turned out to be the last Ruts gig with Malcolm took place at Plymouth Polytechnic on 26 February 1980.

Many of the Ruts best gigs were RAR (Rock Against Racism) gigs with Misty In Roots, and Jah War was written in response to the Southall Riots where the police attacked the Anti-Nazi League that were protesting a National Front march through the predominantly British Indian Southall area

They practice ritual murder by strangulation with a silk scarf (to avoid blood). Apparently, some of them are still living in Angers, France.

Punk / Oi! / Hardcore... - Page 7 Empty One Way System

Post  innocent76 Sat 18 Apr - 15:36

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Way_System wrote:One Way System are a street punk band[1] formed in the Fleetwood area of Lancashire, England in 1979.
One Way System's initial line-up was Craig Halliday (guitar), Gavin Whyte (vocals), Tez Mcdonald (drums) and Gaz Buckley (bass), .[3] A demo of the song Jerusalem recorded by that lineup was later included on the A Country Fit For Heroes compilation album, released in January 1982 - Catalogue number Oi3 - which reached No. 4 in the UK Indie Charts. David Ross joined the band from Poulton-Le-Fylde band, Zyklon B [4] as second guitarist and in 1981 Blackpool's Lightbeat/Beat The System label, released the No Entry EP: A-side Stab The Judge b/w Riot Torn City and Me and You, featuring all 5 musicians.[5]

The first ever record released by One Way System Was "Stab the Judge" financed by Craig Halliday with his grandmother's legacy on a loan basis. Although all of the 1000 pressings were sold Craig's loan to Barry Lights is as yet unpaid and it is believed the money was used to finance releases by other bands on his label.

After some early personnel changes (Tez Mcdonald joined The Fits and it was Craig Halliday left following a disagreement regarding a broken Gibson SG, resurfacing years later in Sick 56), the line-up settled down as Gav Whyte on vocals, Dave "Crabby" Ross on guitar, Gary Buckley on bass and Tommy Couch on drums.

The Give Us A Future 7" was the first release (Halliday, Couch, Whyte, Ross & Buckley) (ANA1) on Cherry Red's Anagram Records in 1982.[6] In the same year, Anagram also re released No Entry as the Stab The Judge EP (OWS2) and the single version of Jerusalem. One Way System became the first signing to Anagram with the release of their All Systems Go LP following the success of Give Us A Future in the indie charts and the band being featured on the front cover of UK national music paper Sounds (magazine).[7]

Between 1982 and 1984 the band had five Indie Chart hit singles and two Top Ten albums.[8][9] A U.S. West Coast tour alongside Circle Jerks in 1984 was abandoned when Keith Morris broke his neck, although the band managed to salvage one date with Suicidal Tendencies. In 1985 Gav Whyte was replaced on vocals by Andy Gibson of Preston punk band The Genocides and the band remained signed to Anagram until they split in early 1986 with enough songs written for an unreleased third album.

Tom Couch then spent 2 years with the UK Subs[10] and has since been voted one of the best punk drummers of all time.[11] One Way System was resurrected in 1995 with Gavin Whyte returning after Captain Oi! re-released All Systems Go [12] and Writing On The Wall [13] in CD format. Gaz Buckley left the band to be replaced by Dave Brown for a ten date European Tour. Brown was replaced in turn by Andy Wilkinson and, in 1996, Cleopatra issued a Best Of collection.[14] In 1996, whilst working on a new album, Gavin Whyte left the band and was replaced by longtime fan Lee Havok (real name Lee Pinkney) and it was with this line-up that undertook a tour of Japan.

A new CD, Waiting For Zero was released through GMM in 1998 [15] and Cherry Red released a Singles Collection in 2003.[16] The 2005 various artists compilation CD Give Us A Future (The History Of Anagram Records 1982-1987) took its name from the One Way System single of that name.[17]

More recently, White South African Lee Havok was replaced by ukNige (ex of Pink Torpedoes and, with OWS founder member Craig Halliday, Sick 56) on vocals and ukNige was then replaced by Jay Susel. In 2011, Couch and Wilkinson, while remaining in One Way System, joined singer Dunk Rock (UFX) and guitarist Tony Mitchell (Kiss of The Gypsy) in gothic psychobilly band Boneyard Zombies,[18][19] releasing the Death Rattle and Roll album in 2012. Both bands appeared at the 2012 Rebellion Festival in Blackpool. Recording for a new One Way System album is already underway and the band toured the U.S. West Coast in 2013. Gaz Buckley is currently in Aussie punk band The Terraces.

http://www.allmusic.com/album/music-to-kill-by-mw0000573488 wrote: Music to Kill By was one of the first completely D.I.Y. punk releases in the United States: although independent labels were already sweeping through the U.K. by 1977, pioneered by imprints like Stiff in London and Rabid in Manchester, the idea was still in its infancy stateside, where all of the first wave of New York punk bands signed with major labels. Even more impressively, this Washington, D.C., conglomeration (which at times, both live and in the studio, had up to 17 members, although the core group numbered five) was actually a scenester supergroup of sorts: its three key members, Kim Kane, Kenne Highland, and Solomon Gruberger, had already released records by their own bands, the Slickee Boys, the Gizmos, and O. Rex, respectively.

These guys are absolutely coordinated, singer and guitarist Koichiro alias Kojak has screamy but still melodic voice (he was driver on The Robocop Kraus tour around Japan), crazy drummer plays with total dedication and bass player understood what is this instrument about.
