A U S T R A L I A - Page 3 Empty Spencer P. Jones and The Nothing Butts

Post  Spellbound Sat 8 Nov - 13:39

http://www.last.fm/music/Spencer+P.+Jones+and+The+Nothing+Butts wrote:Ever wondered what it sound like if you stuck legendary Australian guitarist Spencer P. Jones, James Baker of The Scientists, Beast Of Bourbon and Hoodoo Gurus, fame and now playing with The Painkillers, along with gnarled poet Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin of The Drones in a room together?

Well, soon enough we’ll have some actual music to replace our imagination.

That group now has a name, Spencer P. Jones and The Nothing Butts, with a debut album in the can and due November 9 through Shock Records, with a single and tour plans to be announced shortly.

A press release about the new Aussie rock supergroup details how that Baker, while on tour with his outfit The Painkillers, hitched a ride with Spencer P. Jones to help out with his solo project, recording at Andrew McGee’s Empty Room studios. “Keen to transform the moment into a fully-fledged project, McGee called up his neighbours Liddiard and Kitschin to help out; the pair accepted the invitation, and jumped in the car to join Jones and Baker in the studio.”

What could have been a one-off collaborative event has turned into something more committed, with the quartet reconvening “twice more over the next year,” according to a statement from the band, to put together “an intense collage of Jones’ tales of love, betrayal and emotional turmoil,” described as “a journey through the brooding recesses of the human psyche.”

Memebers Dave Faulkner and James Baker would later go on to form/join the better known power-pop/rock band Hoodoo Gurus.

A U S T R A L I A - Page 3 Empty WITCH HATS

Post  h8 Thu 15 Jan - 21:57

from last fm:

Rummaging through the bones of 60s pop, late 70s post-punk, 80s and 90s noise rock, Melbourne four piece Witch Hats are the ideal antidote to a world that celebrates the vacuous pursuits of the celebrity classes, cheap corporate rhetoric and the disposable lifestyle. Think The Birthday Party jamming with Andrew Wk while Mark E. Smith and The Beatles look on knowingly, and you get some idea of the Witch Hats sound.

A U S T R A L I A - Page 3 Empty The Atlantics

Post  Spellbound Wed 11 Feb - 20:37

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Atlantics wrote:The Atlantics are an Australian surf rock band founded in 1961. Initially, the band lineup consisted of drummer Peter Hood, bassist Bosco Bosanac, Theo Penglis on lead and rhythm guitar, and guitarist Eddy Matzenik. Matzenik was replaced by Jim Skaithitis while the band was still in its earliest stages.[1] The band's claim to fame was as Australia's most successful of the genre. Most well known for their classic hit, "Bombora", their later recordings such as "Come On" are examples of 1960s garage rock. They were the first Australian rock band to write their own hits. In 2000 the group reformed with three of the original members, and continue to release new material and perform in concert. In 2013 the group celebrated the 50th Anniversary of their first album, Bombora and the eponymous single that was their first to chart.

A U S T R A L I A - Page 3 Empty Decline of the reptiles

Post  Spellbound Thu 19 Feb - 19:27

http://www.last.fm/music/Decline+of+the+Reptiles wrote:With a lineage that includes legendary Sydney bands ME-262, Trans Love Energies, the Fifth Estate, the Visitors and the Soul Movers, Decline Of The Reptiles have re-emerged from a long sleep to stake a fresh claim as Australian rock and roll music’s most intriguing outfit.

Born on the sweaty inner-city pub circuit in 1982, the first version of the band spawned a single (“What I Feel”) and two EPs (“The Hammer Speaks”, “Too Much …Armour, Not Enough Brains”) before going into hibernation five years later. The inclusion of their “Don’t Look Down” on the first “Do The Pop!” retrospective collection prompted a re-group in 2009 with a re-tooled rhythm section.

A U S T R A L I A - Page 3 Empty Trans 262

Post  Spellbound Sat 21 Feb - 22:59

http://wallabybeat.blogspot.gr/2013/10/trans-262-7-emi-custom-13174-1981.html wrote:I've been revisiting this for a week now and I'm still not sure that Kill City To New Values Through An Australian Lens was a suitable thesis topic for these guys, or anyone, to have tackled. Mine the motherlode, I say. Still, I'm hard pressed to think of any other band who engaged in such mimickry of the Ig's post Stooges work so more power to them.

Trans 262 started as ME 262, named after a song on the Blue Öyster Cult's Secret Treaties LP. You can hear a 1980 demo, Gonna Die, on Do The Pop! Redux Part One. There you'll also find a complete summary of their existence which we'll summarise here: in the thrall of Radio Birdman (the elephant in the room we won't mention) they were born and played around. For reasons not obvious they were seen in competition to MEO245 so changed their name to Trans 262, also using The Ruse for a while. In 1981 they recorded this EP with Sherbet guitarist Clive Shakespeare. Seems they were disappointed with the result and didn't last much longer. Members went on to The Chosen Few (not that one), Decline Of The Reptiles, Howling Commandos, Rattlesnake Shake, Naked Lunch, The Screaming Tribesmen and The Fishermen. They reunited in 1987, as ME 262 again, to record I Got Nothing (natch) for Hard To Beat, AuGoGo's Stooges tribute double LP.

Band members were Tony Gibson - guitar and harmonies, Ally "Pink" Marr - drums and perversion, Andy Newman - bass and keyboards, Mark Roxburgh - vocals and wanking.
