Devil went down to Georgia

Post  CrazyCow on Sat 25 May - 10:13

wicked stories about dueling devil and poor fiddle Johnny...
it was even censored for inappropriate lyrics and had to change a part to be aired on radio
Charlie Daniels Band "Devil Went Down to Georgia" Grand Ole Opry

even Primus (Les Claypool) was tempted and duel with...there was never a video offering that much to a song Very Happy
Primus - The Devil Went Down To Georgia

and off course it couldnt escape some "scenario" changes from The Muppets and Travis Meyer
The Muppets - Devil Went Down to Jamaica

yeap, Disney channel for kids...ahHAHhahAa

16 Tons

Post  CrazyCow on Sat 25 May - 10:56

there are some songs in Country that as a singer of this music you have to perform, that is the only way i can explain those songs being covered that much, even from groups that have nothing to do with country. Or may be they are so good that you cant leave them out of your repertoire.
Coal miners, rail road workers, convicts and the story goes on...
Merle Travis was the original performer of this song, 1947, Tennessee Ernie Ford 1955, covered it, made it a hit, and after that the list is growing bigger...
picking up from that list Tennessee Ernie Ford because of his characteristic baritone voice
Tennessee Ernie Ford - 16 Tons

a live performance from Jeff Beck & ZZ Top, changing the tune from country folk to southern rock

and a samba cover from Funk Como le Gusta Exclamation

some of the info about this song can be found here

George Jones - White Lighting

Post  Mr Moonshine on Sat 25 May - 13:16

Early rockin country. George passed away about a month ago. This song is all George aka "No show Jones" because he loved drinking his "white lighting" whiskey.  No country section would be honest without George.

and as they camp under the stars, around fire, they sing songs like this, and even horses bushes and the rocks are making the backing vocals when we see them at those goofy movies, having company only their guitar playing serenades.

Porter Wagoner - The Rubber Room

Post  Mr Moonshine on Mon 27 May - 14:50

Written and sung from deep within his soul. Wagoner charted 81 singles from 1954–1983. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Porter always brought an honesty to his song's that few other's have.

Glen Campbell - By The Time I Get To Phoenix

Post  Mr Moonshine on Mon 27 May - 14:59

Another artist who influenced country music in a big way. Glen had his problems and was public about how it effected him like Porter Wagoner. Glen won't be around much longer and has recorded his last album with help from friends of all genre of music. I met Glen once or should i say we made eye contact, at a place where we were obviously two kindred souls among strangers. I'll never forget how we connected so unexpectedly.
