Spaghetti and Western aka Western all'Italiana Empty Spaghetti and Western aka Western all'Italiana

It s a mediterranean recipe, to film western movies by using actors from any european country, preferably not speaking english, and then dub them. Use italian directors and engineers, and film those westerns anywhere else but their place of origin the far west, do it somewhere in europe too. Films like Keoma, Sartana, Django etc etc, filmed somewhere in Spain or Italy, In Studios like "Mini Hollywood" or "Western Leone".
Of course, most of us are familiar with the Sergio Leone westerns, that made Clint Eastwood our favorite good guy and Lee van Cleef, the villain we love the most. Low budget films, spaghetti-es have their own place in cinema and since it was a start for young rising actors like Clint Eastwood many more followed.
A few names from those you will dig in classic cinema: Gian Maria Volonte (Sacco e Vanzetti, La classe operaia va in paradiso, Chronicle of a Death Foretold), Jean-Louis Trintignant (Three Colors: Red, The Outside Man), Orson Welles(do i need to write any movies for this one? really?) and many more.
And not to forget, the soundtracks that were composed for those movies, not only Ennio Morricone and Gianni Ferrio, but Nora Orlandi, Alessandro Alessandroni, Francesco De Masi, Piero Piccioni, Luis Bacalov, Guido & Maurizio De Angelis, etc etc.
I can write pages and pages about S.W. best thing to do, is shut up and post a video or more, and wait for your entries.

So, i 'm welcoming you to this topic with Keoma, a tragic hero, not because is the best of the spaghetti-es but because of the psychedelic main theme from the its soundtrack.

The duo gave the italian cinema, the epic Keoma score, is mostly famous for the Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movie soundtracks. Beside those scores, digging their work you cross gems like this one.

Spaghetti and Western aka Western all'Italiana Empty Thousands Of $$$ Django and Nora Orlandi the female Morricone

Post  CrazyCow Mon 20 May - 21:07

The hero of these movies is named "Django", but has nothing to do with Franco Nero "Django" or Tarantino's Very Happy
Titles are opening and then you listen to the score by Nora Orlandi. Epic.

Spaghetti and Western aka Western all'Italiana Empty Sukiyaki Western Django

Post  CrazyCow Sat 25 May - 8:32

What life would be if we didnt have the contemporary spaghetti-es and especially with a Japanese feeling. This one even had Tarantino himself starring in, but didnt succeed to win the audience the way it wanted, as critics say. I saw the film, and i have to admit that it wasnt an easy one to like. it kept tho stuck on the screen because of it s technical parts, color-filming-costumes-image quality, everything was very well planed. May be that is why critics and the majority of the audience found it hard to watch. It is so rare to find a japanese production of a spaghetti, that i dont care. i d watch it again Very Happy

Spaghetti and Western aka Western all'Italiana Empty The Good, the Bad, the Weird

Post  CrazyCow Sat 25 May - 8:55

Since we are n Asia, lets deal with another unique contemporary western spaghetti that manage to give life to forgotten tales of the wild west, in far east. South Korean production, excellent filming-casting-plot, if you have the chance to watch, dont miss it. Action madness, fun, kitsch pop culture, inspired from the classic Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Now how many films of that genre you know that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival? Well this one did it, 2008 and from some details that i know, i can tell you that FOX bought it after a while to bury it probably, nothing big happened to it after that it was silenced only, may be because it won better reviews from critics than their own craps? Who knows what is going on with big movie companies...

The Good, the Bad, the Weird-Trailer

and a little bit of the score that was also very close to what we are used to, with some contemporary music elements blended in.

Spaghetti and Western aka Western all'Italiana Empty Blood for a Silver Dollar aka Un Dollaro Bucato 1965

Post  CrazyCow Thu 13 Jun - 14:47

back to the roots of the spaghetti western with a classic, Giuliano Gemma as Montgomery Wood, targeting the american audience for a better career, and music composed by Gianni Ferrio, theme song performed by Nini Rosso, and for those they are younger enough not to know this movie, they heard the theme song was used in Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds".
America after Civil war, the good guy is a Confederate soldier, that has to fight post civil war ghosts and gangsters of that era too...
(no trailers in english unfortunately)
